Ingeborg Bachmann - Alle Tage

(25 June 1926 – 17 October 1973)

ALLE TAGE

Der Krieg wird nicht mehr erklärt,
sondern fortgesetzt. Das Unerhörte
ist alltäglich geworden. Der Held
bleibt den Kämpfen fern. Der Schwache
ist in die Feuerzonen gerückt.
Die Uniform des Tages ist die Geduld,
die Auszeichnung der armselige Stern
der Hoffnung über dem Herzen.

Er wird verliehen,
wenn nichts mehr geschieht,
wenn das Trommelfeuer verstummt,
wenn der Feind unsichtbar geworden ist
und der Schatten ewiger Rüstung
den Himmel bedeckt.

Er wird verliehen
für die Flucht von den Fahnen,
für die Tapferkeit vor dem Freund,
für den Verrat unwürdiger Geheimnisse
und die Nichtachtung
jeglichen Befehls.

EVERY DAY

War is no longer declared,
but is simply continued. The unheard-of
has become everyday. The hero
dodges the battle. The weak one
has moved into the firing lines.
Patience is the uniform of the day,
the high decoration: the paltry star
of hope right above one’s heart.

It is awarded
when nothing occurs anymore,
when the drumfire has fallen silent,
when the enemy has turned invisible,
and an eternal armament’s shadow
darkens the sky.

It is awarded
for deserting the flag,
for courage in the face of the friend,
for the disclosure of unworthy secrets
and the nonobservance
of each and every command.

NAP MINT NAP

Hadat manapság nem szokás üzenni,
a háború megy tovább. Mindennapivá
vált a felfoghatatlan. Harcoktól
a hős távol marad.
A gyenge lépett a tűzvonalakba.
Türelemből készül a menő uniformis,
szív felett a remény szegényes
csillaga a kitüntetés.

Akkor osztogatják,
ha már nem történik semmi,
ha elnémult a dobpergés,
ha az ellenség köddé vált,
és az örök vértezet árnya
takarja az eget.

Annak osztogatják,
aki meglép a frontról,
aki baráttal szemben bátor,
méltatlan titkokat árul el
és minden parancsot
semmibe vesz.
